Before we left we noticed a sectional sofa - $75. we had been toying with the idea of getting a sectional, but more like in a few years when we had more money. This one was in great condition and according to the owners was $5000 new (WHAT? Who pays $5000 for anything, except for a car, or house, or awesome road bike?). "It's a Henredon." Like we're supposed to know what that means, but we nodded eagerly. It also had custom-made slipcovers in a nice, light neutral. Finally, the end of ill-fitting slipcovers, offensive patterns, and dubious stains of past couches. And it was cheap! So we impulse-bought it. It was kind of an ordeal getting the cash and then trucking it home so it was almost 4:00 pm by the time we were trying to stuff the thing into our house. We also had to deal with the old couch. Derek smashed his hand at one point and I thought we were going to have to make a trip out to UT Medical center, but he's tough.
If you've never had a sectional, it's kind of difficult to imagine how large they are. This one's four cushions by three - AKA massive. And it's on casters so it was rolling around all over the place as the dogs were jumping on and off because getting it situated was a fun game for them. At that point I was not liking how the thing was looking in our living room. I was trying to suppress the strong feeling of buyer's remorse, practically de rigueur for me after buying anything over a dollar. The general mess of dog toys, jumbled chairs, and rugs was not at all giving a pleasing look to the room, either. Derek's hand was still bleeding at this point so I assembled the cushions, pillows and rug. Then we removed the two chairs, which we amazingly found new spots for. By this time Gidget had already passed out in a mountain of pillows that came with the sectional and Daisey was excitedly sniffing the cushions. Derek was liking it and I was starting to. At approximately 8:00 pm I was officially not feeling buyer's remorse any longer.

Good choice!
ReplyDeleteThat looks great! Turned out to be quite the bargain after all, although Derek's smashed hand might have something to say about that. :)
